Stéphane Montavon is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and a Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CERP) from Switzerland. Born in Lausanne in 1960, he grew up in Geneva and graduated from the Vetsuisse veterinary school in Bern. He then worked as a equine practitioner at the former Swiss Army Horse Reserve (DFCA/EMPFA) at the National Stud Farm in Avenches, at the University of California, Davis (USA), and in his own equine practice in Geneva. Since 2003, Stéphane Montavon has been the head of the Swiss Armed Forces veterinary service. As such, he is the senior professional among all army veterinarians and, in this role, he oversees the equine training of troops and the national equestrian centre (CENB/NPZB). The former president of the Swiss Association of Equine Medicine (ASME/SVPM) also chaired the Veterinary Committee of Swiss Equestrian (FSSE/SVPS) for eight years. At Swiss Equestrian, Stéphane Montavon was a member of the Jumping discipline board as Technical and Sports Manager, and as team coach he accompanied the Swiss jumping riders to the CSIO in Calgary, Hickstead, Dublin, La Baule, Gothenburg, Lisbon and Falsterbo, among many other competitions. He is a Youth and Sport (J+S) expert and a Swiss Olympic elite sports coach. He began his equestrian career in dressage under the guidance of the legendary trainer Georg Wahl and went on to compete in eventing competitions at the 2-star level for more than 15 years. He has also competed in show jumping at heights of up to 140 cm. He has been an FEI Veterinary Delegate since 1986 and a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners since 1988.
